An * after a word means you can find an explanation under the fable
On the great, silent moor, the sheep and the giraffe were strolling.* The heather was in bloom and so it came to be that they walked through a purple rolling landscape with little groups of green trees or a yellow sand spot every now and then.
“Sheep,” said the giraffe, “how is it that through the colours I see with my eyes, I get a warm and peaceful feeling inside?”
The sheep looked sheepishly at the giraffe. The giraffe thought that to be appropriate. Suddenly, the giraffe stood still and with some difficulty, she spread her front legs as far apart as possible and bowed her long neck to the ground to study a heather plant.
“How is it”, said the giraffe, “that it looks like a woolly, purple blanket when I look at it from above, but being real close now, I see a little plant with a lot of separate stems and so many separate little flowers?”
The sheep also stood still, looking more at the giraffe than at the heather that was so well known to her.

* On the great, silent moor
This refers to an old dutch folk song: “op de grote stille heide”
Click here to have Nana Mouskouri singing it in dutch while the audience sings along now and then.

You can continue reading in my book with fables that is published by BoekScout and can be found in their webshop.
The book is bilingual: Dutch-English and is titled:

HOE HET ZO GEKOMEN IS / HOW IT ALL CAME TO BE
psychologische fabels / psychological fables

*As in all fables, the stories mirror human behaviour. Through the animals’ characters, we actually look at ourselves and our society. The fables are contemplative, yet vivid and quite humorous.*
